HS2 plans now scrapped

The £40bn section was set to cut through parts of South and West Yorkshire to link the Midlands and Leeds. The government has now confirmed that the planned route will not now go ahead. Instead, new plans to improve public transport in the area said to cost £96bn are expected in place of High Speed 2.
